Is co-op housing for you?
- Co-op members enjoy long-term tenancies, affordable rent and are part of a supportive community
- Co-op housing requires ongoing commitment as a co-op member, along with the standard responsibilities of a renter
- Please note there is an income and asset eligibility to secure co-op housing.
These are the maximum weekly gross income and asset limit per household to be eligible.
Find out more information by visiting our page on eligibility.
Co-ops select their members
CEHL co-operatives have the autonomy to choose their members.
When a co-operative has an available housing vacancy, CEHL facilitates the process by providing them with information regarding qualified applicants.
Co-operatives take the time to thoroughly assess the list of applicants, and they consider various criteria such as:
- A genuine commitment to actively participate in the co-op’s daily operations.
- Demonstrated positive renter behaviour and a neighbourly disposition.
- Alignment with the co-op’s fundamental values.
- A willingness to engage and learn.
Upon making their selection, co-ops extend membership invitations to their preferred applicant once CEHL verifies their eligibility.
