CEHL Co-op Honour Board

The CEHL Honour Board celebrates co-op members who have made outstanding contributions to CEHL co-operative housing. Every year, at the CEHL Annual General Meeting, the new recipients for our Honour Board are announced; it’s a time to shine a spotlight on the dedicated individuals who have earned this special recognition.

Nominations for the CEHL Honour Board

Nominations for the Honour Board Award are called for during August each year. Invitations to nominate are advertised through the member publication ‘Co-operatively Speaking’.

Current CEHL members are invited to nominate a member of any CEHL co-op, including past members and members who have passed away.

To be eligible for nomination, the nominee should:

  • have a minimum of five years of membership in a CEHL co-op
  • be well regarded and an active member within their co-op and have maintained rent payments
  • have made an outstanding contribution to the wider CEHL co-operative community.

Spotlight on Gordon Kieselbach –
2023 Honour Board recipient

Gordon has been a CEHL co-op member for 23 years, including a time as an active member of the Southwestern Association of CERCS, the Co-op Training Advisory Committee and the Co-op Program Committee.

Gordon served on the CEHL Board as an Elected Director for seven years.

Gordon’s professional background includes service with the South Australian Police Department and working in the insurance industry. He is a member of the People, Compliance and Governance Board Committee.

On behalf of the CEHL Board, Fiona Herman announced Gordon Kieselbach as the 2023 Honour Board recipient.

Fiona said, “Gordon, during the years … you have gone above and beyond for our co-op community. You are acknowledged as being hard-working and dedicated. You have participated in countless events and contributed to various co-op committees. Your support and guidance to many members embarking on their co-op journey have been invaluable. Thank you for your dedication, Gordon. Your efforts are the backbone of our thriving co-op community. Today, your fellow co-op members and CEHL honour you and all that you have done. Congratulations”.

Two very special posthumous Honour Board Awards were presented in 2022.

“We will be forever grateful for their service.”

Barbara Sullivan

Barbara was a founding member of St Euphrasia’s co-op and was a member of St Joseph’s co-op since the mid 1990s.

She actively supported her co-op community and the broader community by coordinating support agencies in her local area, providing food, clothing and housing assistance to people in need, for over 20 years.

She made a significant contribution to the setting up of the Gipps Street housing project and worked closely with CEHL in a broad range of areas that had a lasting and positive impact on the CEHL community.

Percy Leake

Percy was the most wonderful resident, helper, and person in the Herbert Street co-op community. His fellow co-op members remember him as being exceptionally generous with his time and energy.  Percy’s hard work and dedication on the Herbert Street Board will be his lasting legacy.

At the AGM, outgoing CEHL Chair Heidi Lee recalled how Percy once asked her if members of his co-op could visit Earth CERC – Heidi recalled being a little surprised when Percy turned up with a bus full of Herbert Street co-op members who were all warmly welcomed!
