“We need to acknowledge that there will be renters for life, and there needs to be a willingness from government to talk about more housing models”
CEHL Managing Director, Liz Thomas spoke on a panel at the Community Housing Industry Association Victoria Conference in Melbourne, exploring alternative housing models.
When asked by facilitator Tanya Davidge what needs to change, Liz said that we need to acknowledge that homeownership is out of reach for many.
“We need to acknowledge that many will be renters for life and there needs to be a willingness from government to talk about more housing models. We can look to Europe for examples where co-op housing is an accepted part of their housing.”
“We need flexibility of models that offer stability while empowering tenants.”
Pictured earlier with the broader CEHL team, it’s been an excellent two days for the industry to come together and collaborate on the housing solutions Victoria needs.
