About CEHL housing

CEHL provides long-term secure housing to people with low-income backgrounds who may find full market rent unaffordable.

CEHL properties are categorised into three distinct groups:

Common Equity Rental Co-operative (CERC)

CERC co-operatives operate under a leasing arrangement with CEHL. The co-operative assumes responsibility for tenancy management and property maintenance while operating under the guidance of the co-operative’s Board of Directors.

Community Managed Co-operatives (CMC)

CEHL takes the lead in managing tenancies and property maintenance for CMC co-operative properties. These CMCs are directed by a Board of Directors, with active participation from members who are engaged within the co-operative community.

Direct Renters (including VicWide Renters)

CEHL directly leases properties to renters. Some properties are available as affordable housing, while others are available at full market rent.

How do CEHL & co-operatives work together?

CEHL, co-operatives, and their members each hold unique and vital roles in ensuring the success of the co-operative housing model.
