The Lakewood co-op, located in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, showcases how the benefits of living in a housing co-operative extend beyond affordability and security of tenure. With 80 apartments, spread across eight levels, and a vibrant community space, residents are fostering an inclusive community through member-led groups such as the Arts Group (pictured) and Writing Group.
These initiatives, which welcome everyone, enhance well-being and strengthen connections. Operating on a “pay as you feel” basis, the group plans to sell artworks to support future projects.
